Interaction Designer – New Hampshire

We're looking for a talented and experienced Interaction Designer to join an Agile/Scrum development organization and lead the UX research and design process for one of Thunderhead's new products.

You'll be a critical part of the UX team for the product and you'll work closely with UI Designers and Developers, in addition to the larger scrum team, throughout the design and development process.

You have experience researching and designing enterprise-grade web application interfaces. You're aware of best practices but you're not afraid to break the rules…to try new things and see if they work. You're well read, but you have your own opinions. You'd rather innovate than copy, but you know sometimes an idea is too good not to borrow.

Key Responsibilities

  • In collaboration other development and UX team members: research, design and document the functional task flows, screens and system behaviors that will shape how our customers accomplish complex tasks in our products
  • Work across functions to solve design challenges; seek input from Product Management, Architecture, Development, and other UX / UI colleagues
  • Produce the documentation required to support the development process, including but not limited to application architecture maps, user object models, task flows and annotated wireframes
  • Determine when and how to perform user research and validation, and do it
  • Be a visionary. Advocate for design decisions that will make a difference
  • Share your knowledge.

Essential Skills / Qualifications

  • Proven experience designing complex web-based applications as part of a product development team
  • Current understanding of the capabilities of modern web development technologies and techniques, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, Responsive Design, web services (RESTful, etc.)
  • Demonstrated wireframe and task flow development expertise in any tool (paper + pen, balsamiq, OmniGraffle, etc.)
  • Experience designing and executing user research efforts under various methodologies including usability testing, contextual inquiry and blended approaches.

Advantageous:

  • Visual UI design skills (final design mockups in Photoshop)
  • UI Development skills (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery)
  • Degree or work history in human factors, cognitive psychology, or computer science.
