User Interface Designer - Elstree

We're looking for a talented and experienced User Interface Designer to join an Agile/Scrum development organization and lead user interface design for one of Thunderhead's new products.

You'll be a critical part of the UX team for the product and you'll work closely with an Interaction Designer and User Interface Developers, in addition to the larger scrum team, throughout the design and development process.

You have experience designing innovative, modern user interfaces for enterprise-grade web applications. You're aware of best practices but you're not afraid to break the rules…to try new things and see if they work. You're well read, but you have your own opinions. You'd rather innovate than copy, but you know sometimes an idea is too good not to borrow. You understand the value of reusing design patterns across products in a family, but you know not to let that be a crutch.

Key Responsibilities

In collaboration with an Interaction Designer and other development and UX team members: research, design and document emotive and evocative user interfaces that will become the primary point of connection between Thunderhead and our customers
Work across functions to solve design challenges; seek input from Product Management, Architecture, Development, and other UX / UI colleagues
Produce the documentation and output required to support the development process, including but not limited to annotated pixel mockups and production-ready Photoshop files
Work in tandem with UI Developers and the entire scrum team to ensure finished work meets a acceptance criteria
Be a visionary. Advocate for design decisions that will make a difference

Essential Skills / Qualifications

Proven experience designing modern user interfaces for web-based applications as part of a product development team
Current understanding of the capabilities and effective use of modern web development technologies and techniques, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, Responsive Design, web services (RESTful, etc.)
Demonstrated proficiency producing production-ready Photoshop files
Data visualization design skills
Interaction Design skills (task flows, user object models, wireframes)
Experience designing or participating in user research (usability testing, contextual inquiry, etc.)
UI Development / Prototyping skills (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery)
Degree or work history in human factors, cognitive psychology, or computer science
Innovative and visionary approach to design challenges
Excellent written, visual, and oral communication skills
Good interpersonal skills – you like working with a team.
